Emil Alzamora- Sculptor.
“The human form is a constant within my work. I often exaggerate or distort it to reveal an emotional or physical situation, or to tell a story. Limitation and potential are as human as the flesh, yet hardly as tangible. In my works I strive to make visible this interaction.”

Comme Des Garçons 1997
This collection distorts or exaggerates certain parts of the anatomy. I like this because it can link to what an alter ego or split personality can exaggerate or create within a person. I would like to explore how to create such exaggerated shapes effectively and to look at ho beauty can shine through a less attractive exterior or how they can work together to create something new and diverse.

Me&Edward is a 23 year old French photographer. He says his interests shifted from being a cook to “cooking with body parts, light, composition, and flesh.” The above photos are from the series “Metamorphosis.” Me&Edward defines the project as, “a concept about the unlimited transformations of human body.
Here the human body is mutating into different shapes, just like the personality can change into and different metaphorical shape.
I love the images because they look very real, as if these are the subjects’ actual bodies. They are eerie, but hard to look away from.

Bodily Distortion
I have also thought about bodily distortion-how different parts of the body can be emphasized or changed to create a different shape.
This can happen with different deformities at birth or other happenings throughout life and it shows how individual the human body can become when something drastic changes….

Dissociative identity disorder/Split personality/Alter egos
- Dissociative identity disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis and describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.
I have found this subject interesting because a split personality normally involves a person having a good and bad side. This could be linked to novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886. This book shows the good and bad side of a human’s personality, and it points to a big contrast in the two sides- good and evil.
Although a split personality commonly describes the contrast in the good and evil contained in a person, an alter ego can describe a more creative and confident side of a person. thus being viewed positively, an example such as David Bowie and his alter ego- Ziggy Stardust is a good example.

“‘O God!’ I screamed, and ‘O God!’ again and again; for there before my eyes—pale and shaken, and half fainting, and groping before him with his hands, like a man restored from death—there stood Henry Jekyll!” - Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Calvin Klein- Spring/Summer 2009
This collection is so simplistic yet the shapes and contracting textures are superb. This collection explores sculpture and geometry which has been transferred to the body and exaggerated particular parts of the anatomy.
Not all of the collection is just white but a good part of it is. By looking at the use of white in this collection it has inspired me to think about different textures and contrasting fabrics that i can use.
With the entire piece being white it allows for tiny attention to detail and a super sharp cut and structure. I like when the whole garment comes together and makes it brilliant, rather than the colour/pattern of the fabric making the impact alone.
