Dissociative identity disorder/Split personality/Alter egos
- Dissociative identity disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis and describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.
I have found this subject interesting because a split personality normally involves a person having a good and bad side. This could be linked to novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886. This book shows the good and bad side of a human’s personality, and it points to a big contrast in the two sides- good and evil.
Although a split personality commonly describes the contrast in the good and evil contained in a person, an alter ego can describe a more creative and confident side of a person. thus being viewed positively, an example such as David Bowie and his alter ego- Ziggy Stardust is a good example.

“‘O God!’ I screamed, and ‘O God!’ again and again; for there before my eyes—pale and shaken, and half fainting, and groping before him with his hands, like a man restored from death—there stood Henry Jekyll!” - Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
